Transportation

Updated: Jun 4, 2022

The best way (in my opinion) to get around is by train! There are many different businesses that offer this service, but the main one I used was TfL (Transport for London) and the SWR (SouthWestern Railway). There's also ThamesLink, SouthEastern Railway, etc etc, but I mainly used these because I was located in the SW of London and TfL is everywhere throughout Central London.

There's the Tube which is the Metro or Subway. The tube mainly runs throughout Central London and throughout Zones 1 -6. Alternatively, there's the SWR and SE which operate throughout whichever side of London you are on. These lines, along with ThamesLink can take you basically anywhere in the UK! I took a ThamesLink to Brighton (South Coast of London), the SE to Herne Bay/Kent, and many other journeys.

However, people also use the bus (and the bus only) to get around London, and while it is a lot cheaper, it is much slower, much more crowded, and you might get motion sickness. Nevertheless, all means of transportation in London is VERY efficient so either way, you'll get to where you need to go one way or another.

Tip: Might seem obvious, but just follow the signs and use your sense of direction!
